About the Vocaloids
Vocaloid is a singing synthesizer application software developed by the Yamaha Corporation that enables users to synthesize singing by just typing in lyrics and melody. (Wikipedia)
Anyway the creators made to each voice database a character which than became famous. Everybody has a role in the vocaloid family which is growing ~ (Meiko and Kaito as big sister/brother, Miku as an idol etc.)
Not only the official ones but by the fans created vocaloids and utauloids. That's an unlimited world so you can join right now :)
